Saxdor is first builder outside the US to fit Simrad AutoCaptain auto-docking
At the Genoa International Boat Show on 1 October, Finnish builder Saxdor Yachts said it will fit Simrad AutoCaptain across its range, becoming the first boatbuilder outside the United States to offer the system. It was developed by Navico Group and works with Mercury Marine propulsion.
AutoCaptain takes over docking, undocking and short manoeuvres using 360-degree situational awareness. It reacts to wind, current and obstacles in real time rather than relying on pre-mapped harbours, and the skipper stays in control.
Assisted docking is moving from large motor yachts to mainstream production boats, which should make berthing in tight, crowded marinas less stressful for short-handed crews.
